Umlani Bushcamp is a 3 Star Lodge in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, the camp was built in the central section of the Timbavati, a game reserve which is open to and part of the greater Kruger National Park. Umlani Bushcamp is a classic South African Safari Camp with rondavel accommodation and semi open main lodge facilities. Rondavels are round walled buildings under thatch.

Accommodation at Umlani Bush Camp
Umlani Bush Camp can accommodate 16 guests in African styled reed and thatch huts. A recently completed Eco-rondavel with brick walls under thatch, is now available. This unit has two bedside battery powered, LED reading lights with another in the bathroom, these supplemented by paraffin lanterns and candles, thus still retaining the character of the flame lit atmosphere.

Umlani bush camp accommodates a total of 16 guests. Sleeping arrangements can be configured (depending on group and or family size) in; four double huts, three huts that can sleep four, with another of the huts able to accommodate three guests.
Each hut has en-suite bathroom facilities with an open-air private bush shower.

The rooms are comfortably decorated with mosquito nets, crisp linen and towels, as well as standard bathroom amenities, bottled water (although the tap water is perfectly safe for showering and washing, safe to drink too but does not taste too good). The Umlani philosophy of simplistic Olde World luxury, 'getting back to nature' is embraced by the romance of no electricity, so each hut, as well as the entire camp, is lit by candlelight and oil lamps, providing a warm and romantic atmosphere.

On returning from the afternoon game drive in the dark, one is greeted by flaming braziers with the dining table glittering cosily to a multitude of paraffin lanterns, spectacular. The camp fare although limited in choice, is carefully prepared and delicious. Between game drives and walks one has the chance to laze or sleep off the delightful cuisine on the hammocks and chairs scattered around the camp, or watch the passing parade of wildlife coming to drink at the water-hole located across the ephemeral river running past the camp. In summer the refreshing filtered swimming pool is a favoured venue.

One is not entirely cut off from the outside world at Umlani Bush Camp which has a 220V electric charging station located in the Umlani Bush Camp shop. One needs to keep the camera batteries charged when visiting Umlani, there are so many photographic opportunities in the Timbavati Game Reserve.

Umlani Bush camp, the Timbavati Game Reserve, offers really excellent wildlife game viewing, especially of the Big Five where the rangers will even drive off-road in order to get close to the big cats for close, clear viewing. Game viewing at Umlani is of a high standard and one experiences the thrill of guided game drives in open Land Rovers, guided bush walks, tracking game on foot with highly experienced game rangers and trackers.
